Malky Mackay has been at the centre of an unexpected storm in Cardiff this week. The side have made a reasonable side to their Premier League campaign on the field, but fears about what direction the club is heading in off of it remain.

Vincent Tan grabbed the headlines when he sacked the experienced Ian Moody in favour one of Mackay’s closest allies and the bookies feared the worst for the former Watford boss. Several instilled him as their favourite in their next manager to leave market’s at odds of around 11/8 slashed down from 16/1.

Mehmet Dalman insists that Mackay has the full support of the club’s board and that Alisher Apsalyamov, who has no experience of football won’t have the final say.

Cardiff had been longing for a return to the top flight before it finally happened last season after several season of being perennial playoff losers.

After seeing Swansea achieve success in the Capital One Cup and now lighting up the Europa League stage, the Bluebirds will want to prove a point of their own. Mackay will have to tread carefully though if he wants to be part of the ambitious project to match their welsh rivals in the Premier League.
