In the build-up to the tie between the Cottagers and Bluebirds the clash was being dubbed one that could ultimately decide the fate of the losing time, with the two sides occupying the bottom two slots in the Premier League ahead of kick-off.
Fulham fell behind to a Steven Caulker effort, but after Lewis Holtby levelled the scores it looked as if the battling teams may share the spoils.
However, the Cardiff centre-back added another before Sascha Riether netted an unfortunate own goal to make it 3-1.
The result leaves the Londoners four points from safety with just nine games left to play, but Magath says that there is a way out for his side:
“We are disappointed that we lose such an important game so the relegation fight goes on.” He told Sky Sports.
“We were not too good today but for us it is a problem when we score too late. We played OK but one goal and our confidence goes.
“I thought we might do better when we came back but that takes our confidence away when we lose the second goal.
“Nine games [left this season] is a lot of points, but for sure we have to win our home games like Cardiff did today. It is still possible.”
