The Republic of Ireland stopper – who enjoyed a four-year spell at Old Trafford earlier in his career – has been playing alongside the highly-rated striker since joining the Greek giants in 2012.
Mitroglou has been linked with the likes of Liverpool and Arsenal in recent months, but a shock £11m switch to West London was processed yesterday.
Carroll believes that Fulham have made a wise move to secure the in-form goal-getter, who he feels has a similar playing style to former Premier League great, Cantona:
“I’ve known him for two years at Olympiakos and he has played at the highest level in the Champions League and scored a lot of goals for us there.” He is quoted by The Express.
“He has been the top goalscorer in Greece for the last two years. He is 26 and hungry and passionate about his football.
“Eric Cantona was a great, great player, one of the best but Konstantinos is very strong.
“I remember watching Cantona on television and he was holding the ball up and that’s the type of player Konstantinos is.”
Fulham saw off late interest from fellow relegation battlers West Ham to snap up Mitroglou, who is seen by Rene Meulensteen as the sort of player capable of firing the Craven Cottage side clear of the drop.
