Cottagers chief Martin Jol is looking to draft in one or two new players ahead of the transfer deadline, and sees the former Chelsea man as one of his top targets.
The 25-year-old left England in 2011 to join Hamburg in search of regular first-team football and to improve his chances of winning a spot in the England national set-up.
He has enjoyed a relatively successful spell in the Bundesliga, but Jol is hopeful that he can convince Mancienne to return to his homeland.
With the 2014 World Cup around the corner, the versatile defender could be tempted by the move, which would give him a greater chance of convincing Roy Hodgson of his abilities.
Jol is attracted to Mancienne’s ability to play all across the backline and in a defensive midfield position.
He could also help to replace Philippe Senderos and John-Arne Riise, who are both wanted by QPR chief Harry Redknapp.
Meanwhile, Jol is keen on Southampton’s Jack Cork.
But, the Southampton man is valued highly at the St Mary’s Stadium, and the south coast club are far from keen to sell.
Should Michael Mancienne return to England?
