Fulham manager Felix Magath is ready to battle Chelsea for the signature of Wolfsburg defender Ricardo Rodriguez this summer if he can drag his side clear of relegation, according to reports from BILD.
The experienced German manager only took charge of the Cottagers earlier this year, and has, as of yet, been unable to get them away from the bottom three after a difficult season in west London.
But, with a weekend win over Norwich likely to breed a genuine sense of hope at Craven Cottage Magath is already looking at transfer targets.
Rodriguez has emerged as one of the Bundesliga’s top full-backs in recent times, with his mix of attacking intent and defensive competence having drawn attention from the likes of Chelsea.
Magath has already coached the Swiss international during his spell at Wolfsburg, and is known to be a big fan of his talents.
As a result, he is ready to make him one of his first signings if he can ease his Fulham side away from the drop zone over the course of the last five games.
Rodriguez cost his current side a little over £5m in 2012, but it is likely that they will demand a significant profit to contemplate his sale.
