The Lions start their pre-season games this week with a three game tour of Ireland.

They may have added Brentford defender Karleigh Osborne into the Lions ranks, But Millwall have lost a passionate defender in Tony Craig, who completed his move to League One side Brentford this week.

But this weeks’ moves have left many Lions fans wondering, why let Craig go? And so far keep left back Scott Barron at the club?

'Wall started off with three left backs last season. Craig, Barron and new signing Jordan Stewart.

With Stewart collecting injuries throughout the season, Kenny Jacket chose Barron rather than Craig to be the left back for the start of the season. A left back with pace Barron certainly is, but technically at Championship level he is useless. Game after game he would get torn a new one regularly by fairly average right wingers.

This saw Craig go on loan to League One side Leyton Orient in order to obtain first team football. Great performances by the long serving Millwall defender saw him go back to the Lions instead of extending the loan under Jackett's orders.

Craig went on to make the left back position his own for the rest of the season after Jackett decided against a move that would have seen Craig move back to the O's. Barron was then used as a left winger in some games; oh how the groans and sighs could be heard when his name was called out before each game.

Yes Barron may have pace to burn but he never looks to use it to go past defenders down the wing but to be honest, Craig isn't that much better in ability than Barron. But there is one major difference, Craig knows what is needed to play for Millwall, give your all plus passion and you'll be loved, and he was, plus kicking a few players in the air surely helps.

Whereas Barron, well he gives his all, but sometimes it's like he's more worried about his hair getting messed up rather than putting in a tackle. Wannabe model he is, but Championship defender he certainly isn’t. Barron does have one quality that Craig doesn't, Barron can push forward from defence to add another option in attack, but in this division defence comes first when you play at left back.

Left back position was a major weakness in Millwall's team last season; this saw Jackett bring in Scott Malone from Bournemouth. But I thought if anyone would go it would be Barron. He is simply not good enough.

Whereas Craig may not be the best-left back but he was a great cover for centre back too but with the arrival of Osborne means another centre back at the club, Craig's chances of football at the club would be as limited as ever, so it is more understandable that this was the time to move on for a transfer fee rather than running his contract down.

If Jackett did chose between the two I couldn’t see why he would choose keeping Barron over Craig. But you've got to wish Tony all the best at Brentford.

Thanks for everything TC and cheers for the memories.

Who would you have rather sold? Craig or Barron?
