De Jong has joined Newcastle on loan until the end of the season, however the North East club have not scored a goal and have lost all three games that he has featured in since his arrival.
The Dutchman last week admitted that he is finding life tough at Newcastle after appearing only a handful of times all season for Borussia Monchengladbach who paid more than £12million for his services.
Pardew is adamant that his new boy will come good, but he hopes it is sooner rather than later with today’s game against Aston Villa the perfect time for that.
“I think the training has had a little bit of an impact on him,” Pardew said.
“There is a big change in the way this game is played, but he is getting to grips with it.
“He is a terrific lad and has the type of personality you cannot help but like.
“He has integrated very quickly. I hope he is going to be a big asset between now and the end of the season. I spoke to him about it this week and we said it has not been the easiest time for him.”
