The winger is widely thought of as one of League One’s top talents following his emergence with The Dons.
His fledgling performances have attracted a number of Premier League sides, but Newcastle are ready to beat their divisional rivals with an early swoop.
The Magpies are keen to put their woeful transfer dealings of the summer behind them, and are already believed to be putting the wheels in motion ahead of the New Year.
Alli – who is currently sidelined with an ankle injury – is thought to be one of the Toon’s top targets.
The teenager is seen as the ideal long-term replacement for Jonas Gutierrez, who has developed into a cult hero at St James’ Park since his arrival from Real Mallorca in 2008.
MK Dons are desperate to keep hold of the wide-man, but may be unable to knock back an attractive offer for his signature.
The third tier side’s manager Karl Robinson says that Alli is one of England’s top emerging talents.
“I’ve seen him do things in training that I’ve never seen before. He scores goals, he wins penalties, back heels, nutmegs, driving inside, winning headers and tackles,” Robinson said.
“He’s got an air of arrogance and confidence about him. He’s one of the best young players in England – fact.”
