The Magpies have already made several additions to their squad this January, after a difficult start to the season has left them dangerously close to the Premier League’s relegation zone.
All of the club’s current winter arrivals have been French players, with Pardew continuing his trend of snapping up Ligue 1’s finest talents.
The ex-Southampton boss is thought to be now looking at securing a deal for Vainqueur before Thursday’s transfer deadline.
He has sent scouts to Belgium to watch the 24-year-old, and is believed to have been impressed by the reports he has received.
It is unclear as to whether the Belgian side will be willing to allow their man to leave, but a big money bid could tempt them.
Vainqueur began his career with Nantes in his home nation, before switching to Standard Liege in 2011.
He has impressed since his move, alerting a number of clubs across Europe.
Pardew is believed to be keen to strengthen his midfield, despite having signed Moussa Sissoko from Toulouse.
As well as the holding midfielder, he has completed deals for Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa, Mathieu Debuchy, Yoan Gouffran and Massadio Haidara.
