This comes on the heels of the Magpipes having already added Ayoze Perez and Jack Colback to an attack that saw the club finish 11th in the Premier League last season with just 43 goals in 38 matches .
The 22-year-old Lasogga, on loan last season at Hamburg, netted 13 goals in 22 matches and has only one season left on his contract with Hertha.
Hertha general manager Michael Preetz held talks with Lasogga last week and admitted that their club is in a fight with both Newcastle and Hamburg to keep him.
Preetz said: “There will be a decision next week and it is only about three clubs: Hertha, Hamburg and Newcastle.”
Newcastle has also been linvked with moves for Lyon’s Bafetimbi Gomis and Borussia Dortmund’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, whom United tried to sign from St Etienne last summer.
The Magpies should face competition for both players from several European clubs, with Gomis not expecting to make a decision until later on in the summer after being linked with various Premier League, Russian, and Turkish clubs who are interested in bringing the 28-year-old aboard.
Chelsea are also said to be keeping close tabs on Aubameyang, who Dortmund appear ready to move on from despite already losing Robert Lewandowski to Bayern Munich.
