SIX ‘out-of-the-box’ signings for Newcastle United

Alan Pardew is currently under pressure to perform despite completing no less than six new signings. Many people believe that he will only have a few months to get the best out of his squad before the Newcastle United board decide to send him packing.

With time being of the essence, Pardew will need to sign players he knows can make an immediate impression on the club and ease the pressure put onto him by the fans as well as the owners.

Here are SIX players he should definitely consider if he is to see instant results in the improvement of the Magpies…

Loic Remy

Loic Remy

Name: Loic Remy
Age: 27
Position: Striker
Nationality: France
Club: Queens Park Rangers
Price: £13 – £18 million

Loic Remy returns to Queens Park Rangers after his loan move to Newcastle United ended as Alan Pardew could consider making the move permanent. He was on a verge of a switch to Liverpool, but Brendan Rodgers pulled the plug on the deal in the final moments, leaving his move to a top club out of the question.

Having played with the Newcastle squad the previous season, Remy netted 14 goals in 26 appearances and would be the ideal candidate to rejoin the club full-time. He can easily return to his football with the Magpies because he has already had time to fit in with all the players at St. James Park.

Daniel Agger

Name: Daniel Agger
Age: 29
Position: Centre-Back
Nationality: Denmark
Club: Liverpool
Price: £13 – £16 million

The recent signing of Dejan Lovren from Southampton to Liverpool piles more misery on Daniel Agger’s bid for first team football. Having already become third pick behind Mamadou Sakho and Martin Skrtel, the Red’s newest arrival will put a massive dent in his hopes of an increase playing time.

He only had 16 Premier League starts the previous season, scoring two goals but is looking likely to head for the exit should he not get a bigger role at Anfield. Joining a Newcastle side who recently reinforced their squad could see him become a first team regular as all positions are up for grabs, especially ahead of the new campaign.

Mathieu Valbuena

Mathieu Valbuena

Name: Mathieu Valbuena
Age: 29
Position: Attacking midfield (Right, Left, Center)
Nationality: France
Club: Olympique Marseille
Price: £8 – £12 million

Mathieu Valbuena made himself a target for a host of English Premier League clubs after some convincing performances at the World Cup. He managed to net one goal and one assist in four matches as he made the right flank his own.

With a host of midfielders likely to leave Newcastle United, Valbuena can also step into an attacking midfield role or even swapped out to the left flank, making his versatility a huge asset in trying to fill the open slots.

Nigel De Jong

Nigel De Jong

Name: Nigel De Jong
Age: 29
Position: Defensive Midfield
Nationality: Netherlands
Club: AC Milan
Price: £6 – £10 million

Nigel De Jong was involved in all of the Netherlands World Cup games while also playing a big role for Serie A side AC Milan. The tireless player is somebody who can step into the squad and clean up the midfield role by adding some stability in the defensive aspect.

Having spent three years with Manchester City, the English Premier League is nothing new to the Dutchman as a return to West Ham isn’t completely out of the question. His physicality gives him an advantage over his opponents, so if Alan Pardew wants someone powerful dictating the game, De Jong is his man.

Gary Medel

Name: Gary Medel
Age: 26
Position: Defensive Midfield
Nationality: Chile
Club: Cardiff City
Price: £8 – £11 million

With a few midfield players likely to leave Newcastle United during the summer window, Gary Medel could be brought in to add a much needed stability to Alan Pardew’s squad. His versatitlity can also see him play as a central defender should he need to, much like his top notch display for the Chile national team recently.

Medel would surely jump on the opportunity to be back in the English top flight after not being able to help his Cardiff City side avoid relegation the previous season. Fitting in shouldn’t be a problem as he has already spend an entire season in the English Premier League.

Joel Campbell

Joel Campbell

Name: Joel Campbell
Age: 22
Position: Attacking Midfield (Right) / Forward
Nationality: Costa Rica
Club: Arsenal
Price: £5 – £8 million

From his goal against Manchester United in the UEFA Champions League group stages to his World Cup display, Joel Campbell has proven he has the quality to become a starting member of any squad. With Arsene Wenger looking to let him out on loan again, he could consider a move to Newcastle United instead.

He aided his nation in reaching their first ever quarter-final, scoring one goal out of his five tournament matches. Last season he was on loan at Olympiacos, scoring 11 goals and providing 12 from a total of 43 games. Currently back training with the Arsenal side, he is quite likely to already be familiar to the English game and may not need to adapt too much should he make a switch to join the Magpies.
