Queens Park Rangers defender, Clint Hill, is adamant that further spending isn’t the answer to his club’s troubles.

Hoops’ chairman Tony Fernandes funded the arrival of eleven new recruits this summer, but the club sit bottom of the Premier League and remain winless after sixteen matches this season.

In an interview with the Guardian, Hill said, “The chairman is throwing money everywhere, left, right and centre and sometimes that doesn’t work. You’ve got to stick with people, work on them and try and get the best out of their ability. I just think we need a bit of stability.”

Of their player imports in recent years, the 34-year-old added, “We’ve had loads. That’s not the way to do it. I’ve been here three years now and I’ve seen loads come and go. I do think we will go and try and get a couple of players, but I don’t think it will be five, six or seven.”

Nevertheless, Rangers and Harry Redknapp have tendencies for shopping sprees and have been linked with moves for Robbie Keane, Darren Bent, Nicolas Anelka, Joe Cole and Scott Parker in January in a bid to avoid relegation.

Hill’s no-nonsense, albeit unglamorous, playing style has not been lost on R’s fans, who voted him their player of the year last season. Redknapp too has shown an appreciation for the battling qualities of Hill’s type, saying, “You need the lads who are going to roll up their sleeves for you.”
