Premier League survival.

The Super Hoops drafted in a number of fresh faces last month, as manager Harry Redknapp attempted to build a squad capable of avoiding the drop.

As well as French international Loic Remy, the club brought in Jermaine Jenas, Andros Townsend, Christopher Samba, Yun Suk-Young and Tal Ben Haim.

Mackie believes that all of the new additions can contribute, but highlighted Samba, who replaced the departed Ryan Nelsen, as somebody who can really drive the club forward:

“Nellie (Nelsen) has been absolutely tremendous for us, as has Clint Hill, so we needed someone to come in and replace Nellie and luckily we have managed to do that with someone of Chris’ stature,” he told the club’s official website.

“He’s a monster, a powerful boy and hopefully he can score a few goals for us as well. If we can hang the ball up not too many people are going to beat him in the air.”

Mackie is also looking forward to playing regularly alongside Townsend, a player he feels will boost their attacking options:

“Andros is direct and he’s willing to take players on, that’s what we need. And when you’ve got someone like Bobby (Zamora) on the pitch, you need deliveries into the box and Andros put a few balls in.

“He looked lively and he’s a youngster so he plays with no fear.”

Mackie himself was rumoured to be close to leaving Loftus Road during the winter window, but was kept on by Redknapp.

The versatile attacker was believed to be attracting the interest of both Norwich and Fulham.
