FA Cup quarter-final tie to book a trip to Wembley.

The DW Stadium-based outfit will face one of Everton or Oldham in the next round, knowing that a positive result will guarantee a game at the national stadium.

Scharner recently returned to Wigan, joining the club on loan from Hamburg for the remainder of the season.

He’s made three first-team appearances so far, and is hoping that he will get the opportunity to perform at Wembley:

“At this stage of the cup, everybody should just enjoy the moment because we are only one game away from a Wembley semi-final now, and obviously then it’s only 90 minutes to the final,” he told the Wigan Observer.

“Everybody wants to play at Wembley whether you are from England or overseas, and it is a big target for me this year.

“Wherever you go in the world, everyone knows about Wembley Stadium – and it would be a dream for me to play there for Wigan Athletic.”

Scharner helped Wigan to a major cup final during 2006 in his first spell with the club.

Due to the new Wembley Stadium being under construction, the game took place in Cardiff’s Millennium Stadium, a venue that played host to a number of domestic finals.

Scharner admitted that it was great to play in a showpiece game, but that missing the opportunity to play at England’s iconic ground was a disappointment:

“I remember very well getting to the final of the Carling Cup back in 2006 in my first year with Wigan. The game was played at the Millennium Stadium down in Cardiff, from which was okay I suppose but it wasn’t Wembley Stadium.
