arsene wenger has being

arsene wenger has being saying that he is not in the transfer market for villa, but if we can get villa then we will win every competition.but signing amauri wont be that bad but i'd rather buy villa.63 goals in 3 seasons! quaresma would be another fantastic signing but we don't have that much of a problem on the wing.we should buy a clinical goal finisher like villa.but I've just heard that there is a 19 year old Turkish player we gonna buy who is just like Cristiano for 8 million pounds.his name is sahin

We talked about Bronze Ball

We talked about Bronze Ball winner Nuri Sahin in Arsenal Football Fancast 023 and, as I said then, he sounds like a decent prospect. I hope he's as like Cristiano Ronaldo as you say! I agree Arsenal would have won silverware with a more clinical finisher in the team. Emmanuel Adebayor's good, but not quite the level of Fernando Torres. David Villa could make Arsenal invincible again, but Arsene Wenger may not feel like spending £25m on him. I have to argue about Arsenal's need for proper widemen. Theo Walcott can do a job on the flank, but other than him who else can Arsenal rely on to put crosses in from a wide position? Armand Traore might get a run out on the left wing soon, but he wants to emulate Emmanuel Eboue who's had a lousy season! Wenger needs natural wingers who provide width and crosses, not another Alexander Hleb type, who can't resist cutting inside. I'll get Alex Brodie's views on these subjects on the next podcast.

Joe, in the same podcast you

Joe, in the same podcast you said (a) that you thought Arsenal were going to finish 5th this year, (b) that they don't play winning football because they play fancy football, (c) that they need coaching on defense, and (d) that Grant has done worse than Mourinho this year. So you're unhappy with their style of play even though they vastly exceeded your fondest hopes? Seems a contradiction to me. And they need coaching on defense? For whom, the experienced players who have been making mistakes of late? I'm with your mate on Gallas at ManU -- these things happen to everyone. Did you know that 6% of skydiving deaths are due to failure to remember to pull the cord? If that can happen, then a veteran defender -- even if he saw the ball coming -- could fail to remove his arm, as Gallas did. As for Mourinho and Grant, well, they are in 2nd, having climbed out of a hole they were in when Jose left. And was Mourinho really that special when he didn't have Drogba in the team? As Grant didn't for a good part of the year? Anyway, what I basically get from you is that this overachieving season (in your view) is proof that Wenger's ball control style of play doesn't work. I don't think you have made the case. Fortunately, you put on a highly entertaining show...

Thanks for your comments

Thanks for your comments Sonny! You're right in saying my expectations have been exceeded in terms of results. I got it totally wrong this season as I thought Liverpool would finish top, with Torres scoring loads (at least I got that bit right!). I had Chelsea under Mourinho second I think, but under Grant I thought they'd finish 5th. Man U I had 3rd and Spurs 4th. Good job I'm lousy at predictions, eh? And going back to your post, I'm not unhappy in entertainment terms watching Arsenal. They're fantastic to watch. It's just so nerve wracking. Under George Graham, if Arsenal went 1-0 up I thought it was game over. I enjoy a 'boring' game so long as my team wins. And you have to admit, Arsenal are leaky defensively nowadays. Maybe that adds to the entertainment! I know what you're saying about Gallas, in a way, but I never thought he would ever make a mistake like that. That was a mistake of the mind rather than one of ability and I thought Gallas could keep 100% concentration throughout games, even when the stakes are high. If any other Arsenal player did it, I would understand. But not Gallas! On another point, you're right to say without Drogba even Mourinho had the odd dodgy result. But Jose never lost to Arsene and Grant did in his first game against the Gunners. So I still think, long term Grant at Chelsea is good news for Arsenal because he struggles to win the big games. And I reckon Drogba will leave Chelsea if Grant stays in charge. It will great for football if Arsenal can win the league next season with this expansive style of football that everyone loves watching. I think it is possible, if Wenger brings in a bit more experience to the squad. If everyone's fit, Arsenal are arguably the best team in the world. It's just the size of the squad that's the main problem. But the other problem is defensive. Almunia's had a good season it's true, but the back four trying to play out of defence when under pressure has sometimes led to unnecessary goals being conceded. Clichy getting robbed when he could clear the danger always springs to mind. Don't get me wrong, I think Clichy's a brilliant player, but I believe sometimes you have to play it safe. And then Wenger insists on believing in Phillipe Senderos, when it seems to me he's a bit of a weak link. That's why another centre back is a must! Until that problem position is addressed, they'll be few clean sheets if Gallas or Toure is absent. And Nordtveit is unlikely to be the answer next season, unless he comes on a bundle in the summer - which is always possible with youngsters. That brings me on to the age of the team. It really is something to be optimistic about, as most of the side will be better players next season - a frightening prospect for the rest of the Premiership!
