Are Spurs set to settle for second best?

Football FanCast columnist Jake Walters fears that Spurs may settle for 2nd best

If someone can please tell me why it took until 3pm this afternoon for Dimitar Berbatov to fly up to Manchester, then I would like to hear it. Here we are on deadline deal, needing the sale of the Bulgarian to broker moves elsewhere and we wait until mid afternoon to send him up; shouldn't he have been in Manchester first thing?

I have found today's events an absolute nonsense and with Zenit turning down an Arshavin move, Milito seemingly on his way to Genoa; the strong rumour coming out is that we have now lined up Emile Heskey and Sergio Garcia, once the Berbatov deal is confirmed - I don't know what other fans feel but I am hardly bowled over; hardly suitable replacements for Keane and Defoe, let alone Berbatov.

Of course we only have ourselves to blame. We have dragged our feet, hoping to get the best deal and why many will point to the benefit, with Manchester City coming in at the 11th hour, I hardly see how selling them to our rivals in the race for the top 5 finish and the UEFA Cup warrants a good idea - strengthening Man United is disappointing, but doing it to Man City is totally unacceptable. I can understand Levy wanting to sell to City to get one over on Fergie, but surely a little common sense here has to prevail.

So what do Spurs fans feel about the day's proceedings and do you share my reservations about Garcia and Heskey? Do you feel we would be making a grave mistake in potentially selling to our immediate rivals or is it the best deal for the football club?

Garcia is half decent but

Garcia is half decent but cannot understand the move for Heskey, panic buy beyond belief.

End of the day we have

End of the day we have suffered for dragging our feet early in the market. I would rather just have Pav and Bent alone until January.

It sounds like the Heskey

It sounds like the Heskey deal is all but complete with Campbell joining Wigan once Berbatov goes to United, talkabout vicious circle.

don't believe all the

don't believe all the rumours. we were never going to sign a barrel load of players today. arshavin has been tricky for a while, but admittedly the defensive midfielder attempt has failed today. but let's clear about this: our business today has not been dependent on the berbatov sale!! it just happens that we haven't been able to clinch other purchases. perhaps, perhaps we may have put in a bumper bid for arshavin but it sounds like we've genuinely been doubting his valuation for a while. the problem is you've beleived all the hype that we're going to sign 8 players all in one day. it was always going to be difficult to get more than one or two and i reckon corluka of all the targets was the most important one today.

Ill be back to comment at 12:10. When we all know what has and hasnt happened.

we have dragged our feet but

we have dragged our feet but united did not want to pay our asking price so should we sell berba on the cheap? it is not that easy finding suitable replacements ,hopefully if we do sign heskey ramos will improve him like he did with freddie at seville .

Stop believing the Man Utd friendly media.

Heskey wont be bad as a

Heskey wont be bad as a third choice striker behind Bent and Pav. And I would rather see Berba play for manc than manu and that red face.

Levy's a very happy man. I

Levy's a very happy man. I somehow knew that he would be holding out for top dollar at the expense of the team. He has replaced a top class strike force for mediocrity with Spurs dosh. Levy out.
