Paul Ince admitted Blackburn Rovers were outclassed by Manchester United, but blamed the 2-0 defeat on the award of a controversial first goal at Ewood Park.

Rovers saw their three-game winning run come to a halt against the champions, but Ince was unhappy at the award of Wes Brown's first-half opener after claiming goalkeeper Jason Brown had been impeded by Nemanja Vidic.

"The first goal was disappointing," claimed the Rovers boss. "I think the referee has got it completely wrong.

"We were still in the game at 0-0. The referee hasn't seen Vidic has put his elbow into my keeper's throat - it was a diabolical decision."

However, Ince conceded that his side had been second best to an improving United, who doubled their advantage through a well-worked Wayne Rooney second.

"They are the champions of Europe and are a fantastic side and sometimes you just have to hold your hands up," he continued.

"As far as I'm concerned, against the top four it is always going to be a bonus if you get something from it.

"It is one game, we've had a good couple of weeks, we've had some good performances, so I don't want to make a mountain out of a molehill.

"We'll take stock, go away for a couple of weeks and we'll be ready for Bolton."
