Double swoop that could define Spurs' season

Football FanCast columnist Matt Wright hopes Spurs will pull off double swoop

Juande Ramos promised at the start of the week his intention to shore up the defensive side of the football club, and why should we believe any different. It has become something of a necessity for the Spaniard, given the way the team has been torn apart in the opening games and many would argue that it must be of a greater priority than who the club bring in to replace Keane and Berbatov.

There is no question that a failure to shore up the defensive frailties, will consequence in a long hard slog. The amount of points that Spurs threw away last season was scandalous quite honestly and given we have lost our strike-force, the need to sort it out has never been greater. So who will Ramos bring in?

Rumours are abound by various sources, that Spurs are going to unveil the signing of Man City centre-half Corluka and Sporting Lisbon's highly rated defensive midfielder Miguel Veloso; I say defensive he is more the complete midfielder who contributes goals as well as he tackles.

It is thought that the announcement is scheduled to take place tomorrow and the club are merely waiting on Manchester City to complete the signing of Espanyol defender Pablo Zabaleta, who is currently in Manchester discussing terms. Corluka will be a wonderful addition and is extremely solid. He will represent an excellent complement for either King or Woodgate in the backline and bring some much needed steel to the defence.

So do Spurs fans share my excitement at their possible arrivals or do you feel it will prove little more than hot air? I personally feel that both players are vital if we are to have any hope of making a push for honours and could well prove the difference between success and failure.

Admire your confidence Jenks
Admire your confidence Jenks and I hope you are right but we will wait and see. I have a feeling that the move for Veloso wont amount to anything.

Think they would be great
Think they would be great additions but I won't hold my breath until they are in a Spurs shirt. Really like Corluka. Just Pavlyuchenko and Arshavin as well and we are set.

hope your right too, if not
hope your right too, if not bayern now said to want berbatov, so what about a player money exchange taking podolski and schwienstieger to lane and berbatov to bayern where he can sulk as much as he wants. Schwienstieger can takle and is big and podolski can score. Would be even better with corluka.

do me a favour .. if we were
do me a favour .. if we were that lucky we would not have done so badly in the last two games what would happen if we lose three further games..will we need to sign every tom dick and harry that can stop the rut while we pay millions to those idiots who are already there come on all we need is to give two solid kicks up their arsawins to get the wind up their sails to take us up somewhere above the bottom three.. then we would believe that there is some hope left for this season

I agree Sid. A good signing
I agree Sid. A good signing for the club but I hope that if we do get him that we get him cheaper because of this. He would add to Pav who also now can't play in the EUEFA.
