Football FanCast columnist Matt Wright hopes Spurs will pull off double swoop
Juande Ramos promised at the start of the week his
intention to shore up the defensive side of the football club, and why should
we believe any different. It has become something of a necessity for the
Spaniard, given the way the team has been torn apart in the opening games and many
would argue that it must be of a greater priority than who the club bring in to
replace Keane and Berbatov.
There is no question that a failure to shore up the defensive frailties, will consequence in a long hard slog. The amount of points that Spurs threw away last season was scandalous quite honestly and given we have lost our strike-force, the need to sort it out has never been greater. So who will Ramos bring in?
Rumours are abound by various sources, that Spurs
are going to unveil the signing of Man City centre-half Corluka and Sporting
Lisbon's highly rated defensive midfielder Miguel Veloso; I say defensive he is
more the complete midfielder who contributes goals as well as he tackles.
It is thought that the announcement is scheduled to
take place tomorrow and the club are merely waiting on Manchester City to
complete the signing of Espanyol defender Pablo Zabaleta, who is currently in
Manchester discussing terms. Corluka will be a wonderful addition and is extremely
solid. He will represent an excellent complement for either King or Woodgate in
the backline and bring some much needed steel to the defence.
So do Spurs fans share my excitement at their possible arrivals or do you feel it will prove little more than hot air? I personally feel that both players are vital if we are to have any hope of making a push for honours and could well prove the difference between success and failure.
