Nice to see Ramos give Spurs fans the clarity they deserve!

Football FanCast reporter Freddie Myers mulls over the latest rumours and rumblings

If there is one thing that I have respected about Juande Ramos, since he has arrived in England, has been his total honesty and it is clear he is a man of his word. He never shirks a question, says it how it is and doesn't leave you second guessing. You can imagine that is what he is like to his players. Some will respect the honesty while others won't, but to be fair the latter are the ones who should be shipped out anyway.

He has built up a fantastic reputation with all his past players both in Spain and by the sounds of it at Tottenham - even Berbatov christened him the ‘perfect one' and you certainly feel that once the Spaniard can shape up his squad to his requirements, then Spurs will be in pretty safe hands

There has been so much rumour and speculation around Berbatov that it has really started to grate with Spurs fans who demanded transparency from the player in order to get to the bottom of the rumblings. It obviously wasn't forthcoming and it's clear the Bulgarian does all his talking through his agent, but at least Ramos has had the decency to enlighten the fans once and for all.

Ramos speaking to ITV

I've spoken to him many times and know exactly what he wants,"

When asked if it is possible to change Berbatov's mind at this stage, he added: "No, I understand perfectly well that big clubs want to sign him.

"Obviously we have to cover our backs in case the player decides to leave and we have to have options to replace him. I would obviously like him to stay here but we don't know how future negotiations will go so it is something I cannot guarantee.

"If there are offers coming in for the player we will see if they convince the club and the player as well."

"What we want is for the player to be happy and enjoy his football. The player has the key to this and it is up to him at the end of the day.

Ramos believes it will be possible to replace Berbatov if he leaves, adding: "Of course there are great players in Europe that can do just as well as Berbatov."

Well it is pretty conclusive that the mercurial Bulgarian is on his way from N17 and it will be a grave shame as he is one of Europe's top strikers.

One player is not bigger than a football club and if the player doesn't respect his surroundings then there is no point in keeping him. As Ramos mentioned there are plenty of players who can do just as good a job as him in Europe so although the Spaniard will be sad to lose him, he will have plenty alternatives. So who would you like to see come in to replace Berbatov and will they be a suitable partner alongside Robbie Keane. Eto'o has been muted but I couldn't really see the pair of them together upfront. Would you welcome the return of Kanoute? Is David Villa an adequate replacement or should Ramos move for a Klass-Jan Huntelaar?

We will wait and wonder it's just nice to see Juande Ramos put a line under the whole debate and give the Spurs fans the clarity they deserve.

You can't blame Berbatov for
You can't blame Berbatov for wanting to take the best shot he can get at a Champions League title. He's not an old striker but he has only a few years left at his peak. Maybe Berbs just feels that he needs a club who are more likely to be challenging for a CL final spot during his peak years. While it is good to see that times at Spurs are on the up, it may not be as quick as we'd love it to be. Good luck to Berbs. It's been good watching him play. Maybe he'll be back in the years to come. He's not irreplacable though. Berbs wasn't a big name before he reached WHL. It's a matter of finding the right talent, who fits the club.

Id like to see Huntelaar at
Id like to see Huntelaar at Spurs. He's more of a striker in the Berba mould, and i think paying the reported 27ish million for Eto'o is a bit pricey for a player who is out of form and been a bit injury prone lately. We could get Huntelaa for around 15mill i reckon, leaving us with plenty of cash for Capel and Veloso. Could be a good team next year! Robbo, Hutton, King, Woodgate, Bale, Lennon, Veloso, Modric, Capel, Keane and Huntelaar.

I'd like to see Diego Malito
I'd like to see Diego Malito come in, we could get him at a fair price and hes a proven goal scorer.

In regard to Berbs: I
In regard to Berbs: I believe he was given assurances that if we didn't make Champs League this year he could go (it should be pointed out to 'the mercurial Bulgar', however, that one of the reasons for this failre was his slow start to the season). I can quite understand him playing at the highest level his obvious quality demands - what i haven't liked is the 'agent' saga. Berbs shouldn't be talking about his head 'boiling with all of the talk' (over transfers during the summer) if Dantchev has been acting as his mouthpiece. And if he hasn't berbs should have publicly reprimanded, or even fired, him. Believe we can reple berbs at the level we are at and a little bit above, but it is if/when we get into the Champs. League that berbs quality would be apparent, and apparently lacking if we don't replace him adequately. I do think Spurs fans should be magnanimous in wishing him off, however. In regard to replacing Berbs: i would actually quite like to see Darren bent given a proper go - I don't like this talk of 'monumental flop' - the man has scored as many goals, playing largely from the bench, as some teams top scorers, for-goodness-sake, and with Modric (hopefully) significantly increasing creativity in midfield (and more goals!) bent's direct style may be well-suited. Anyone else and i will trust the judgement of Ramos et al.

Ramos is the real deal and
Ramos is the real deal and will get us there, Berbs is quite within his right to say he's not prepared to wait. Let's just hope the board have learned from Man Ure's example and sell him outside of the Prem/UK.

Seems Jol did a lot more
Seems Jol did a lot more damage than screwing up the start to the season and therefore the whole season as a result. The only plus point being we now have Ramos but no Berbatov.

Berba is a one off player
Berba is a one off player and i wish him all the luck in the world. Now its time for Bent to be retained and bring in Etoo as well. Failing Etoo Id like to see Diego Milito. He is really top draw striker and scores all kind of goals. I fear Bent has failed to impress and may well be on his way which will mean that we will need both Etoo and Milito at the club and bringing through Pekhart wouldnt be the worst idea in the world.

Darren Bent? He looked sharp
Darren Bent? He looked sharp against Reading and allowed Keane to play to his strengths, dropping off. I wouldn't be surprised if Ramos just brings in a 3rd choice to backup those two. After all, they paid £16m for Bent and I think he'll get his chance next year.

Berbatov

I agree Bent is a far more
I agree Bent is a far more direct striker than Berb's and will score plenty of goals given the chance. He reminds me somewhat of a young Andy Cole. But he is unlikely to create as much as Berbatov for his teammates. Eto would be great, but I feel Keane need a big fellow partnering him upfront. I may be wrong though cause Eto is a very good striker. I'm glad we got Modric, but we need a defensive midfielder, a goalie and a replacement for Berbatov. I think it will be good for competition on top, since Berbatov had got a special position in the club and was a secure starter. If he leaves it will get more open and that will make it more difficult to defend against since the opponents can meet different strikers. Keane and Berbatov however was a great threat anyway because of their tremendous partnership, both being technical players with loads of creativety. Berbatov should not leave Tottenham for less than 35 million pounds.
