Should Spurs look to old boy to fill void?

Should Spurs look to old boy to fill void?

Football FanCast columnist Hans Schmitz feels that Spurs need to move on and quick

When Dimitar Berbatov revealed his desire to move on to Manchester United this morning, I doubt many Spurs fans were surprised. Such has been the rumours and rumblings in recent weeks; it was only a matter of time before the player piped up to force the move. I have to say I bare no bad feeling for Berbatov; a player who has been an absolute privilege to watch at the Lane, but I would be lying if I didn't think the club have made a mess out of this whole episode.

The club can moan as much as they like about United and the possibility that he was illegally approached, but the fact of the matter is the player no longer wanted to play for the football club; long before the season ended. He wants Champions League football and we cannot provide it at this moment in this time, so why wait until the season starts before selling him on; surely this should have been resolved in the first weeks? What were we hoping for a change of heart - talk about taking a calculated risk? Juande Ramos should not have had to wait until to the final weeks of the window to replace his strike-force. It is a ridiculous scenario and hardly beneficial for a manager who is trying to rebuild the football club.

So who should the club bring in to replace Berbatov? I think every available striker in Europe has been linked at some point, but as yet no new arrivals. My personal choices would either be Ruud van Nistelrooy or the return of Freddie Kanoute. Both players who possess wonderful attributes and who are more than capable of playing the lone striker role, which is clearly the preferred option.

I feel the club have let this sorry episode go on for far too long and the sooner we get in a couple of strikers the better. It is time we stopped haggling for the best deals and get the players sold and new ones brought in. If Zenit want £19.7m for Arshavin then pay the money; it's not as if we didn't get that money for Keane, the longer we drag our feet the more chance we have of jeopardising our season.

Good shout, I think both

Good shout, I think both would do a great job, we should never had sold Kanoute inthe first place.

Van Nistlerooy is by far the

Van Nistlerooy is by far the best alternative, his goalscoring record is out of this world, cant believe that Real want him to leave.

Agree about the fact this

Agree about the fact this issue should have been sorted months ago, cant believe we sold Keane without bringing in a replacement.

Please Ramos - replace fire

Please Ramos - replace fire with fire. Sign Van Nistlerooy and get someone to hunt Man U when we play them. It would be interesting to see if Berba or Van Nistlerooy would score against their former clubs. My money would be on Ruud!

Ruud Van Nistelrooy would

Ruud Van Nistelrooy would not want to go to spurs because he is 1 of the top scorers in the champions league and wants to increase his goal scoring in the CL even more.So that rules him out because Spurs dont play in the CL and never will! Next Arshavin, to be honest i dont believe he will go to spurs because he has already won the UEFA cup with Zenit and he wants to play in the Champions league. Mabey a bigger team like PSV would suit him!

Why Spurs did not sell

Why Spurs did not sell Berbatov in the first weeks of the transfer window? Surely that is because no buyers were available at Spurs' asking price. Yes, ManUtd wanted him all along but weren't offering close to the correct price. Refer to Ferguson's coy comments on time being on their side. Perhaps we should rather ask why we did not buy Arshavin in the first weeks of the window. Since then his price has increased by more than £6m.

Van wants CL football as

Van wants CL football as does Arshavin which spurs do not play in so that rules them out!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Mabey Franny Jeffers or Milan Baros?????

What is driving me up the

What is driving me up the wall is all the negativity that has surrounded our loss to middlesboro. I like every Spurs fan was confused by the team selection. And that has been gone into enough. We have at this moment A big fast strong proven Premiership striker in Bent. A player that can play the lone roll up front. He has proven he can move onto the fast through ball. Dos Santos Modrick and Bentley can supply that. This was their first PL game together. Ok we do need another striker and he will arrive sooner rather than later. Forget Zakora at RB play Gunter and start with Bale. If we lose to Sunderland then what Ive just written is a load of rubbish but we cant. Can we?

We don't need a new striker

We don't need a new striker to replace the 'desperate to leave' berbatov !!! We need 2 new strikers because we haven't even replaced '2 faced' keane yet !!!!!
