Football FanCast reporter Freddie Myers mulls over the daily rumours and rumblings
If there is one thing you can say about various trips to
White Hart Lane this season, it has been an eventful. Never let a Spurs fan
tell you that they haven't had value for money as they have been privy to 100+
goals in what at times has been some of the most eventful games that famous old
stadium has seen in years.
I have been fortunate that I get given the gig to go to
the Lane, with my day job, and at times it has certainly been enjoyable. Not
being a Spurs fan helps my sanity and I really don't know how the home
support's heart cope as they are constantly dragged through the mill. Every
cross or set piece is met with a sigh or wince and the sheer relief goes up
when the ball is cleared, is there for all to see.
The Spurs defence has had its fair share of fun and games (who can forget Reading at home) and has been the major source of criticism by all. I have always felt that a little harsh and really believe they have been on a hiding to nothing as they are terribly exposed by the midfield and they lack a goalkeeper who has had any sense of presence and is able to organise them efficiently. Paul Robinson has been out of sorts for some 18months and his deputy Radek Cerny, although did very little wrong, was not the commanding influence they needed. As we know Cerny has since left to join QPR and it is surely only a matter of time that Robinson follows him out of the door.
Spurs are going to need a couple of keepers that is no
question, but who do you feel is up to the task? Joe Hart has been muted in
recent weeks, Carlos Kameni and Gomes have been touted for sometime but the
latest reports today on Sky Sports suggest
that Lyon keeper Gregory Coupet is reportedly attracting the interest of Juande
Ramos.
ENJOY:
At 34yrs old; the Frenchman comes with a wealth of experience and will certainly prove a lot cheaper option than the others that have been mentioned. He has been an influential member of the Lyon side that has dominated French football and played in all their Champions League campaigns.
So who would Spurs fans like to see between the sticks next season? Coupet comes with good credentials, so is he the man to finally breed some confidence in the backline or would you prefer to see a younger man in the mould of a Joe Hart or Carlos Kameni? Or should they make a move for my own personal choices of Carlo Cudicini or the Brazilian Gomes?
