Liverpool host Tottenham this Saturday in what will be one of the most important fixtures in the race for Champions League qualification this season.

Before the turn of the new year, Liverpool were looking like league leaders Chelsea's greatest threat, however 2017 has been a different story for the Reds, who have won only once in all competitions since January 1st. Their most recent result was a poor 2-0 defeat to a resurgent Hull City.

Tottenham, on the other hand, have done quite the opposite. After a slow, yet undefeated, start to the season, Mauricio Pochettino's men have certainly found their feet and have become Chelsea's main rivals for the Premier League title. Although the Blues look likely to run away with it, Spurs are going about their business quietly and if they keep winning, it could set up an interesting end to the season.

Regardless, both sides will be desperate to win at the weekend, Liverpool to kick start the rest of their season and Tottenham to keep the pressure on Chelsea and stay ahead of the rest of the chasing pack.

Liverpool have scored some absolute belters against Spurs in the past. Here, we take a look at five.

Terry McDermott, 1980

How have I never seen this goal before? This FA Cup quarter-final at White Hart Lane was decided by just one goal and what a belter it was from Terry McDermott. The goal would later go on to be given the English goal of the year title - no surprise really considering the sheer audacity of McDermott to first take the touch and then volley it right into the top corner like a bullet.

Gets better every time you watch it.

Luis Suarez, 2013

Poor defending? Or a great move? For the purpose of this, we will go with the latter. I am certain Liverpool fans must miss the days when Luis Suarez graced the grasses of Anfield with his delicate boots. Suarez scored some absolute belters during his time on Merseyside, but this goal will be remembered as more of a team effort than anything, with the deft play in the middle from Philippe Coutinho and Jose Enrique's clever through ball being finished expertly by the Uruguayan striker.

Alberto Moreno, 2015

Again, you really do have to question the quality of Tottenham's defending, especially considering it is Alberto Moreno who marauded past their entire defensive line and finished clinically into the bottom corner. A rare moment of quality from a player that has been nothing short of poor at Anfield otherwise.

Jon Flanagan, 2013

A special goal and a special moment for young Jon Flanagan who notched his first goal for his boyhood club in a 5-0 thrashing of Spurs at White Hart Lane. Flanagan's ascent into the first team looked to have finally taken flight with this wonder strike, but since the departure of Brendan Rodgers, the young full-back has struggled for game time at Anfield.

Terry McDermott, 1978

That man McDermott just loves a goal against Spurs doesn't he? It may not be as fine as his first effort (scroll back a few pages and give yourself a reminder), however this effort is a beauty in its own right. A devastating counter attack saw Liverpool spring from their own box to Tottenham's in a matter of only 3 passes, before McDermott cooly headed home in fine fashion. You just don't see headed goals like that anymore.
