Manchester United, for the second season in a row, find themselves set for another Wembley final showdown, this time in the EFL Cup vs. Southampton.

The last meeting between both sides in a final was in the 1975/76 FA Cup, a game the Saints won 1-0 courtesy a late Bobby Stokes strike.

Man United made it to Wembley after beating Hull City 3-2 on aggregate in the last four of the EFL Cup, despite losing 2-1 at the KCOM Stadium. Claude Puel's side, meanwhile, made it to the home of English football with, arguably, two of the best displays of the tournament this season as they beat Liverpool 1-0 in both legs of their semi-final tie.

The final gives both clubs the opportunity to win a silverware. For Puel, it could be his first success in English football, while Jose Mourinho will be looking for his own maiden trophy as Man United boss, albeit he has lifted the League Cup on three occasions in the past while at Chelsea.

With the talents that are to be on show it surely promises to be a fantastic final. However, there can only be one winner, and here are THREE reasons Man United will be celebrating after the final whistle...

Mourinho's cup final experience

The Portuguese boss has had a highly successful career so far and is widely known as one of the best managers to have ever graced the game of football. And it's easy to see why, with a staggering 23 trophies claimed from spells at Porto, Chelsea, Inter Milan and Real Madrid. The most recent addition to that collection was the Community Shield, which his Red Devils side claimed by beating Leicester earlier this season.

The 54-year-old has featured in 12 major cup finals and has won a staggering ten of them, with 2-1 and 1-0 losses losses to Benfica and Atletico Madrid the only blots on his copybook. He has the opportunity to add to that tally once again on Sunday in the competition in which he claimed his first trophy in the English game back in the 2004/05 season when Chelsea beat Liverpool 3-2 after extra time.

The ex-Porto boss' experience in games such as this cannot be overlooked, and he will surely relish the occasion. His Manchester United team will be geared up for it.

The Saints lost captain Jose Fonte to West Ham during the January transfer window and shockingly failed to replace him. That decision could come back to haunt them, too, with star defender Virgil van Dijk to miss the final clash through injury, and indeed the rest of the season.

This all leaves Puel with just Jack Stephens and Maya Yoshida as the main defensive unit - recent addition Martin Caceres' fitness is still in doubt - and they'll be tasked with dealing with the threats Zlatan Ibrahimovic and co pose. Oriel Romeu, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg or Jordy Clasie can offer protection from midfield, but there will be times the centre-backs will be called upon alone.

The Old Trafford faithful have found themselves in unfamiliar situations in the last few seasons, with the likes of David Moyes and Louis van Gaal having struggled to replace legendary manager Sir Alex Ferguson. The 75-year old enjoyed a successful 27-year spell at the Theatre of Dreams, winning a whopping 38 trophies in that time.

Man United have since been a shadow of their former selves, failing to win in the league since 2013 and struggling to qualify for the Champions League. The only bit of good news came last season when they beat Crystal Palace 2-1 in the final to clinch the FA Cup.

With Jose Mourinho now in charge, coupled with the world-class acts of Paul Pogba and Zlatan Ibrahimovic in their ranks, they will surely be looking to ensure more success comes soon.

The EFL Cup provides an ideal opportunity, and few will bet against the Red Devils winning the trophy this season.
