After a seven-year absence from the African Cup of Nations, Togo have put themselves in prime position to qualify for their first ever quarter-finals appearance. A goal in the 88th minute from Gervinho, sealed a 2-1 loss to Ivory Coast in Togo’s first match. However, they bounced back strong with an upset victory over Algeria. After two matches, Togo must win or draw in today’s match against Tunisia to advance.
The Sparrow Hawks will count on a big performance from their captain and leading-goal scorer, Emmanuel Adebayor. After retiring from international football in response to the 2010 bus ambush, the Premier League star decided to represent his country for this tournament. In 55 national team appearances, the striker has netted 27 goals. Tottenham has greatly missed their 2011-2012 top goalscorer. Since his departure, Spurs have exited the FA Cup with a disappointing loss to Leeds United.
To celebrate Togo’s 2013 African Cup of Nations run, we are giving away a Togo home shirt.
Creative African Network artist El Loko designed the new shirts. The Togo native focused on making the shirts comfortable and breathable, while employing bright colours characteristic of the African country.
