GK: Lionel Perez – Kenny Dalglish didn’t exactly shine in the transfer market during his second time at Anfield, but offering Lionel Perez a contract at St James’s Park makes Andy Carroll look like the best piece of business since Alan Sugar decided he’d start selling out of the back of van. Perez was released by arch rivals Sunderland, who at the time, were in the second division anyway. He never played a competitive game for the club, although he once made the bench against Arsenal. His club list afterwards consisted of Cambridge, Enfield and Stevenage, suggesting Perez may have been somewhat out of his depth.
