Having bought 19 players in the last five January windows, the suggestion that Harry Redknapp won’t look to add to that tally is incredibly unlikely. I reckon it will be only one or two at the most, although I do sense most of the transfer activity will be outgoings.

I personally have been surprised at the lack of activity going on at White Hart Lane so far. It appears that even the Press have given up trying to second guess what Tottenham will do, although I do sense we are witnessing the calm before the eventual transfer storm at N17, especially given the amount of excess talent currently residing at the club. Tottenham have a good opportunity to recoup a bit of money this January, with Pavlyuchenko, Hutton and Bentley set to lead the likely exodus.

You may love or loathe Daniel Levy, but nevertheless you cannot question not only what an excellent job he has done at Tottenham, but the way he stands his ground in the market and manages to get top dollar for players. Look at the way he held out on Darren Bent before Sunderland were forced to agree to pay up the whole asking fee, albeit via a series of add-ons. Levy will want at least £25-30m for the aforementioned trio, and I for one wouldn’t bet against him achieving it by the end of the month.

Should Levy come up trumps and provide Harry with that sizeable budget, I guess the question arises as to who Tottenham should or would look to bring in. I have to concede that looking at the Tottenham squad there are very few areas that need improving, especially given the form of Michael Dawson in defence and the revelation that Niko Kranjcar has been in the midfield. The north Londoners’ squad is right up there with Chelsea and United’s in being one of the best in the country therefore is there any real necessity to improve upon it?

Harry Redknapp has been extremely cool about everything and talking about how delighted he is with the current squad, but I just feel that a wave of activity is just around the corner. As well as a couple additions, I can see at least four or five exits trimming down the squad to a manageable number, as well as bringing some cash back into the Tottenham coffers.

Calm before the storm, or are Tottenham actually set for a rather subdued transfer window by their standards?
