With the ongoing striker conundrum at Chelsea, the big question that looms is will Jose Mourinho shuffle the pack in his striking department? While big money bids for Edison Cavani and Diego Costa are often mooted, Mourinho may also have the luxury of looking internally for reinforcements. Romelu Lukaku is the obvious example, setting the league on fire on loan at Everton, but Chelsea do possess perhaps another diamond in the rough.
This comes in the form of 20 year old Patrick Bamford who is on loan at Derby County at the moment. The England U-21 international has raised eyebrows with impressive displays for Steve McClaren’s side. Having spent the first half of the season at MK where he scored an impressive 17 goals, he made the move to Derby for the second half of the season, where he continues to impress and has helped the club continue their march to promotion.
Bamford has already struck 5 goals in just 7 appearances, the latest of which came against Sheffield Wednesday this week. Bamford received a cut back from fellow loanee Andre Wisdom, before sublimely curling his effort from distance against the underside of the cross bar and in. The strike kept Derby firmly in the play-off places and his performances have not gone unnoticed.
Bamford will look to keep up these displays and force Mourinho’s hand.
