This assumption that Cesc is bound to return to his boyhood club is utter rubbish, he’s an Arsenal player, has been for the past six years, and I believe he’ll stay for at least another six.

I’m confused how this “Barca bred” theory works. I’ve read Puyol say pretty much the same before.
So, if Cesc should be sold back for under his market value, does that mean that Barca will be selling Messi back cheaply too? After all, he is “Newell’s Old Boys” bred so I reckon the good folk of Rosario would have a beef paying his real worth too.

Let me guess, it doesn’t work like that. Is that what “Més que un club” means in Catalan?

Well that’s going to be a problem then, isn’t it? You are going to have to pay a lot of money for a young man on a long contract. If you don’t want to pay it then I am sure Real Madrid can find the money or he will stay in London. I think Cesc knows that he owes his career more to Wenger than he does the cantera. He has spent more time playing football at Arsenal than he did at Barca after all. Barca bred perhaps but Wenger raised, I’m afraid.

Good read, nice breakdown…I still think it happens if for no other reason than all the principles want it to.

Barca suffers from an embarrassment of riches when it comes to their youth academy.

what a great article….you talk about barca’s settled midfield….then what about arsenal….you talk about Messi, xavi, etc…
Nasri,song,Vela, willshare,ramsey,marida, these are very few who are all under 22, this is even without Fab…. your article,,,you know what….let’s just wait and see who is producing better talent….Arsenal or Barca…
