The immediate fate of Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea has become one of the tabloids' favoured talking points ahead of the summer transfer window, amid relentless rumours of a big-money move to Real Madrid.

The Red Devils are determined to keep hold of the Spain international, whose superlative performances this season earned him a nomination for the PFA Player of the Year award, but the allure of the Bernabeu has proved too almighty for the Premier League's top stars over the last few years.

Furthermore, the 24 year-old is yet to extend his Old Trafford contract past the end of next season, so if Los Blancos launch a bid this summer United will find themselves between a rock and a hard place.

But fear not Red Devils, for Football Fancast is here to help. Using our god-given powers of transfer know-how, we've come up with FIVE realistic replacements for United's potentially departing No.1...

VICTOR VALDES

Let's not disregard what Manchester United already have.

Although David De Gea is a more talented goalkeeper than Victor Valdes in the estimations of many, the latter claimed every honour going during his decade as Barcelona's No.1, including six La Liga titles, three Champions Leagues, six Zamora Trophies (most clean sheets award) and two La Liga Goalkeeper of the Year awards - not to mention the 2010 World Cup and 2012 European Championship with Spain.

At 33 years of age, the 20-cap Spaniard is still firmly within his prime. So before the Red Devils go investing fortunes in a new No.1, simply promoting Valdes - perhaps only for a season or two - is certainly worth their consideration.

ASMIR BEGOVIC

There are certainly more coveted options on this list with greater experience at the top level of the game.

But Stoke City's Asmir Begovic knows the Premier League well and has shown a remarkable consistency during his five seasons as the Potters' No.1.

In that time, he's won the club's Young Player of the Year, Player of the Year, Players' Player of the Year (twice) and Supporters' Club Player of the Year awards - so there's no debating how highly the 6 foot 6 shot-stopper is regarded at the Britannia.

Furthermore, the Bosnian international is yet to renew his Stoke City contract past the end of next season - suggesting they could be forced to sell the 27 year-old this summer.

Interestingly, Begovic was a surprise exclusion from the Potters squad that faced Swansea City last weekend. The Express believe manager Mark Hughes is already preparing for life without him.

PETR CECH

Petr Cech is unquestionably one of the greatest goalkeepers in Premier League history, boasting four league titles, the 2012 Champions League title and 332 appearances as Chelsea's No.1.

This season, the Czech international has conceded just one goal in six Premier League appearances, but is unfortunate enough to find himself stuck behind the prodigious Thibaut Courtois in the pecking order.

Resultantly, he's widely expected to leave Stamford Bridge in the coming transfer window and the tabloids believe the Blues will sell for anything above £10million - as claimed by The Telegraph.

Still just 32 years of age, Cech could still have a decade of Premier League football ahead of him - his greatest strength has always been world-class positioning, rather than flexibility.

But whether the west Londoners would sell to a club representing arguably their biggest threat to retaining the Premier League title next term remains to be seen.

HUGO LLORIS

Reportedly Manchester United's desired choice of replacement for David De Gea, various tabloids have alleged a summer bid for Tottenham star Hugo Lloris - with talkSPORT even claiming negotiations are already underway.

The Spurs No.1 has continually demonstrated his world-class shot-stopping abilities since arriving in north London from Lyon in summer 2012, this term making the most saves, 82, of any goalkeeper in the Premier League's top seven.

Now 28 years of age and the captain of the France national team, it's claimed Lloris wants to test himself at Champions League level - despite tying himself down to a five-year contract at White Hart Lane last July.

Spurs chairman Daniel Levy is renowned for driving hard bargains, however, and recent speculation claims the Lilywhites want around £40million for Lloris this summer - as alleged by The Express.

SAMIR HANDANOVIC

Outside of the Premier League, The Daily Mail claim Manchester United are targeting Inter Milan No.1 Samir Handanovic.

He's easily been the best goalkeeper in Serie A this season and looks set to claim a third spot in the division's official Team of the Year, after keeping eleven clean sheets and making 68 saves in 33 league outings for Nerazzurri.

The 30 year-old boasts considerable experience at the top end of the game too, with 35 appearances in continental competitions and 75 caps for Slovenia under his belt already.

And although Inter Milan will want to keep hold of Handanovic this summer, he's yet to renew his San Siro contract past the end of next season.

That could force Roberto Mancini's side to sell, with The Metro claiming he's valued around the £16million mark.
