Arsene Wenger has remained coy for much of the transfer window, offering very little of a clear indication as to whether he intends to strengthen or not. The Arsenal supporters have been promised that there are funds available and that the manager would be looking to the market, but as yet, the Emirates faithful remain disappointed.
Wenger spoke of his confidence in the current Arsenal team, speaking of the numbers available to him in each position. However, the attack still looks very light, and even if Lukas Podolski or Theo Walcott are to be considered alternatives to Olivier Giroud, all three players are regular fixtures in the starting XI.
The other issue is a lack of effort and quality from certain sections of the squad and the continued injury problems from others. Wenger may have belief in his current group, but it remains his weakest squad as Arsenal manager.
If the club are serious about playing Champions League football next season, they simply have to take action in this month’s transfer market.
