Levy must learn his lesson and not drag this transfer out
Football FanCast columnist Matt Wright is fearful of Tottenham dragging out the sale of Roman Pavlyuchenko.
Harry Redknapp came out yesterday and claimed that if Roma want Roman Pavlyuchenko then they’ll have to pay top dollar for his services. Apparently the Russian is still an important part of his squad; who is Harry trying to kid.
While I am sure the comment was merely to tow with the company line in an attempt to sway the perception that we are desperate to get rid of him, the fact is that everyone knows that Pav is about as welcome in Redknapp’s squad as a fart is in an elevator. Roman wants out and I am sure that Harry is equally desperate to get the funds to spend elsewhere.
What I found worrying about Redknapp’s words yesterday is that it is clear that Levy will be desperate to recoup as much of the £14m that was paid out some 15months ago. While as a businessman that is understandable and to be fair over the years the chairman has done well in squeezing as much money as possible out of the buying clubs, I think here we have a different case here altogether. The Russian hasn’t set the world alight, certainly hasn’t added any value to the original fee, therefore holding out for top dollar seems ridiculous, especially as there will hardly be a huge amount of interest or buying clubs. Surely the last thing we need is another Berba deadline saga, which will give Redknapp absolutely zero chance of finding a replacement or being in a position to utilise the transfer fee to strengthen elsewhere in January. That is my real fear, especially if reports are true that Redknapp will have to sell before he can buy.
Time will tell I guess but I think we would be crazy to let this situation drag out. I am not suggesting we take a massive hit just to get Pav of the books, but just a sense of realism and what his actual sell on value is. £9-10m is the most in my opinion we can ask for and I hope for the sake of January spending that Dan Levy agrees with me.

I think Daniel Levy has proven that he can run a football clubs finances without some amature telling him the value of a player.
Grow Up.
Dan is a genius financaialy , i agree with earlier comment, what ? did a gooner write this article, moron
You would have said that Zokora was not exactly a world beater and didnt set the world alight, in your opinion possibly a £4 mill would have been a true reflection of his value but hey come on you have to take your hat off to a man who sold him for £8.75 mill and even made a tiny profit let alone making any loss..Mr Levy learned his lesson and if Spurs is one of the best in the country , teams will have to pay for a top team player fee..as simple as that.
His agent was happy for him to sign a 5 year contract and that same agent will understand that Mr levy is no mug and will get the best deal for us and the club…and why is it you always wanna bash our chairman………you may not like how he has gone about things but his main passion is tottenham..Given all the mangers funds may of been a little trigger happy but as chairmen go i think he is one of the best and without doubt tottenham is in the best shape in the prem….you mate are a plum who dont know football of the biz of football
Harry is hardly going to say we will sell him on the cheap is he – start the bargaining at the top level not the bottom -I am not sure what Pav is worth anyway – we surely overpaid in a panic buy!
OK Daniel Levy maybe good at finances but lets not forget that not that long ago most of the Spurs fans were calling for him to leave, its only the appointment of Harry Redknapp that turned things round for him in my view. If he is sold at the last possible second then Tottenham will have to make sure they have replacements.
Yup. I agree with many of the comments here. Defoe should undoubtedly start for England. Capello must not choose a player merely based on his name or previous contributions. Heskey is definitely out. And Defoe should be the first choice along with Rooney. And if it is between Rooney and Defoe, it should be Defoe as a striker. Rooney may contribute more to the midfield than Defoe. But as a striker, it is Defoe. And Lennon must also be chosen ahead of all other wingers because he is the best winger in the EPL currently. How i wish that these two were playing for MU. One more point, Bentley is good too, perhaps second best after Lennon. He should also be considered by Capello ahead of some other terrible wingers. One thing i dont understand about the silly spurs coach though, is the fact that he refuses to recall Dos Santos or perhaps to a lesser extent Taraabt. If it was Alex Ferguson, Dos Santos will be a world class star by now.
