Manchester United captain Nemanja Vidic is set to leave the club at the end of the season.

The 32-year old made his debut for United in 2006 after a £7m move from Spartak Moscow on Christmas day, but with his contract expiring in the summer the Serbian is looking to move on.

With 309 appearances for the club, along with 15 trophies, Vidic made a statement on the Manchester United Official website in regards to his departure:

“I’m not considering staying in England as the only club I ever wanted to play for here is Manchester United.

“It’s the last year of my contract and I have had eight wonderful years here. My time at this great club will always rank as the best years of my career.

“I never could have imagined winning 15 trophies and I will certainly never forget that fantastic night in Moscow, memories that will live with me and the fans forever. However, I have decided that I will move on at the end of this season.

This will have come as a big blow to manager David Moyes, who has recently praised the defender’s performances and was looking for him to stay.

Vidic’s depature will make a world class defender the top summer transfer target to partner one of Phil Jones, Chris Smalling, and Johnny Evans.
