I was really looking forward to England’s quarter-final with Italy on Sunday, but according to the media the game is a foregone conclusion. Although the victor hasn’t been revealed it has been unanimously decided that it will go down to penalties.

With this in mind I won’t bother with the first 120 minutes and instead use that time to attempt to write the greatest love story ever told. It’s good to know the hopes of our nation rely on dragging out a draw in order to try our luck from twelve yards because we must be due. It’s not a logic I would fancy putting to the test against Gigi Buffon but apparently it’s ok because Joe Hart will save and score them all.

However, because of our fair country’s penalty fever I was given the opportunity to meet Peter Shilton, who offered me his tips for keeping out the Italians on Sunday if it does go down to the wire. Although he managed to mould me into the perfect goalkeeper in just under an hour I just wish Joe Hart could have been there, my passport went through the washing machine so I can’t join up with the squad in time for kickoff. In all honesty I think he was expecting to be coaching an aspiring Gordon Banks but instead he got an Ian Walker/Mark Bosnich (as he is now) hybrid.

Be that as it may, it was a genuine honour to meet a true legend and gent of the game and as well as looking like an idiot in goal in front of the Sky Sports News cameras I got to ask him a few questions about his career, England’s prospects in Euro 2012 and Shredded Wheat.

Why am I just learning about this now? A bunch of owrnes in my football league colluded in my league a few years ago. I screamed to the commissioner but he did nothing. Is it too late to file with the SportsJudge Court?
