Police arrest BBC comedian for Goodison Park prank
Comedian Simon Brodkin gave Manchester City fans at least one reason to smile while reviewing the club’s 0-2 loss to Everton this Saturday. The BBC prankster somehow managed to weasel his way on to the Goodison Park pitch where he joined in on the club’s warm up. Sporting a full kit, Brodkin was seen stretching next to Joe Hart and Kolo Toure.
Eventually, coach David Platt alerted stewards and Brodkin was ushered off the pitch. Stadium police didn’t find any humor in the publicity stunt and arrested Brodkin, who was disguised as Jason Bent, a fictional Premier League footballer from his television show.
This isn’t the first time an unwelcomed guest appeared on the pitch during an Everton – Manchester City match. Last year, a man handcuffed himself to the goalpost late in the first half of a match between the teams. The man protesting Ryanair’s recruitment process caused about a five-minute delay.
Also, this isn’t Brodkin’s first run in with the police. The comedian was detained by an officer when fake shoplifting a copy of his own DVD.
BBC conveniently failed to identify their employee in their reports of the event.
