Arsene Wenger

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger was linked with the Manchester City job when former manager Mark Hughes was sacked 13 months ago. At the time Wenger did not deny an approach from City had been made but refused to speak about the issue. However, he did make it clear, though that his frugal philosophy was in stark contrast to the way City's Arab owners run their club.

Wenger's attitude towards the transfer market and the money he spends is in no way a negative belief, yet, are his views towards the big money spent by clubs such as Chelsea and Manchester City wrong in that, these clubs are surely only showing ambition?

Wenger says: "When I came to England every club was run within its resources. Chelsea and Man City are new problems in football. I run Arsenal like I feel it needs to be run. It is a new problem but they don't steal the money, they have it. I'm personally a big fan of the way we do it, so I try to be successful with the way we do it.”

Wenger has always ensured Arsenal's finances are not stretched - quite unlike City's "money is no object" approach. Manchester City’s mega rich owner, Sheikh Al Mansour, has spent close to £1billion to establish City as one of the world's big-hitters since taking over 29 months ago. For some this would seem wrong, the old saying goes ‘if you’ve got it, flaunt it’ and that mantra would certainly fit City.

Inter Milan much like City have brought in many of their star players through big money moves and consequently their spending has culminated in becoming European Champions. If quick success is wanted the easiest and fastest way to do so is to bring in world class players whatever their price tag. This is exactly what Manchester City are doing, with the team sitting in 2nd place in the Premier League their plan seems to be working so far.

Now I’m sure this kind of article will have its critics, most likely from fans of clubs who do not have the resources like that of Manchester City. So tell me what you think, is it totally wrong of Sheikh Al Mansour to throw around the cash like he does or is he entitled to do what he can in order to ensure success?
