Some refreshing honesty coming out of West Ham
Football FanCast guest columnist Dan Pepper is delighted to see some refreshing honesty coming out of West Ham.
One thing that often happens when performances on the pitch are poor is that the manager looks for excuses, someone to point the finger at to deflect blame off themselves and the players. I have always found that the cheap and easy option and not fair on the power brokers at the football club.
To be honest if there is one club manager that you would feel sympathy for and has just cause to have grievance at his misfortunes then surely it is Gianfranco Zola. With the football club crippled in debt, being forced to sell players and having limited resources to replace them with, the little Italian is playing one hell of a balancing act in order to succeed and why he performed minor miracles last season, he has found this year a bit of a struggle and results haven’t panned out as had hoped. I’m sure if Zola was to come out and heap blame for the current plight and performances on the pitch he would have his sympathisers among the West Ham faithful; however Zola is not that kind of fella and in a day and age where people like to pass the buck, it is refreshing to see such honesty displayed:
Zola said “I don’t know if it is a coincidence,
“As far as I am concerned our financial situation is not affecting our performances. I can’t judge for the others.
“Certainly it does not help, but you can do it without. Last year we did it and this year we can do it as well. I don’t want to use it as an excuse for any of my players.”
It shows exactly what the man is all about and perhaps if some of the players just focused on their own performance, rather than be distracted by the off-field problems and the anxiety that surrounds the club at present, then they would in fact go a long way from relieving some of the pressure by putting in the kind of performances that yield results. As Zola said, they did it last year and it is about time they started do the same now.

I think that if you looked at the results to date, they have played good football but lacked a cutting edge and in all fairness a bit of luck in most games – at the other end it seems like every shot whistles into the top corner. I believe these things even out over a season and if they keep playing they will beat some of the lesser teams in the division, certainly enough to keep out the bottom three.
Zola must go, you can’t blame the off feild problems, all i keep hearing zola as sold our good players,who are they? I can only think of one player i miss and that’s James Collins.
