Swansea City’s Spanish star Michu has been voted as the Player of the Season so far in a poll carried out by Absolute Radio.

Michu secured 22% of the vote, meaning that he beat Manchester United striker and fellow Premier League top scorer Robin van Persie into second place.

The poll was carried out by Absolute Radio in football stadia across the country and on Twitter using the hash tag #TellWrighty last weekend.

The fact that Michu won the poll shows how good a signing he has been for Michael Laudrup, as he cost Swansea just £2 million in the summer.

Robin van Persie also moved clubs in the close season, swapping Arsenal for Man United, and has carried on his excellent goal scoring form at Old Trafford, netting 12 goals in the league so far this season and helping him earn 20% of the vote.

Third place was won by Chelsea’s Juan Mata, with the Spaniard lighting up English football at times this season and securing 8% of vote.

Finally, in joint-fourth place with 7% of the vote were Liverpool’s Uruguayan striker Luis Suarez and yet another Spaniard, this time Arsenal’s Santi Cazorla.

So, three of the top five were Spaniards, with Michu, Mata and Cazorla entertaining English crowds this season, but there were no English players to be seen at the top of the voting.
