1. Robinho to Manchester City, 2008 – Think back to the days when Mark Hughes was Manchester City manager and the new owners had just promised him a huge influx of cash. Instead of the likes of David Silva or Carlos Tevez, Champions League-less City had to previously settle for players like Wayne Bridge or Shay Given. However, they made a huge statement of intent in the summer of 2008, pinching Real Madrid’s Brazilian superstar Robinho from under the noses of Chelsea. The forward looked all set for a move to Stamford Bridge until an hour before the deadline, when City announced their shock capture. It didn’t matter that Robinho proved to be useless, City had arrived.
