Manchester City took this one right down to the final few seconds but managed to lift the league title on the weekend following their win against QPR.

It’s not so much that this was an unpredictable season, but rather one that offered up something new almost every week. Manchester United ran City close, but lets not get away from the fact that City bought the title. Good on them for their win, but they did.

Meanwhile, a nastier side of football took over for portions of the season. Little were hoping to invest nine months in controversy, incompetence and the stupidity of pre-match handshakes. But unfortunately that’s what was served up.

Of course there were highlights: Notably Newcastle’s form and their introduction of many fantastic talents into the league, as well as Swansea’s brand of attacking football. Then there was surely that universal sigh of relief as Fernando Torres seemed to find his shooting boots for a spell longer than just one game. And of course, the fantastic performances of Robin van Persie.

Above all, this has been one of the most memorable seasons in the short history of the Premier League.
