The January window is widely considered to be a bad time to conduct transfer business, given that clubs who are desperate to turnaround their season turn to panic buying in order to kickstart their revival.
The selling club takes full advantage of the buyers woes and bumps up the transfer fee accordingly, leaving the club taking calculated risks given the very financial nature of survival in the Premier League or attempting to qualify for the Champions League. History shows it can get messy and plenty of millions wasted in the process.
