The Frenchman became Fulham’s record signing when he joined from Olympique Lyonnais for £11.5 million in 2001. After an unsuccessful spell in England were he only managed 11 goals in 54 appearances the forward was loaned to Marseille while Fulham continued to subsidise his wages. Things went from bad to worse when chairman Mohammed Al Fayed tried to sue former manager Jean Tigana for purposefully overspending on the striker because he had links to Lyon. The charges were eventually dropped but Marlet never impressed and his contract was eventually cancelled by London club.
