Jamie Carragher’s role at Liverpool football club has been described as ‘iconic’ by Reds boss Brendan Rodgers, who has also stated that finding a direct replacement at the end of the season for the retiring veteran would be a worthless task.

There is no doubt the former England defender has been a fantastic servant to his club, and spent much of his career playing an exceptionally high level of football. His presence at the club alone, not to mention his performances, experience and ability will be sorely missed.

Alas, the game must move on, and so must Liverpool. And perhaps they can’t find the next Jamie Carragher in the summer transfer window, but they certainly need a replacement to fill the void left by the ageing centre-back.
