I have always been a big fan of Benoit Assou-Ekotto. The Tottenham defender has always maintained he possesses a mercenary attitude in regards to professional football, yet over the years it has not stopped him produce sensational goals and excellent performances.

Nevertheless, the constant revamping of the Spurs squad amid their efforts to break into the Premier League’s top four has exposed Assou-Ekotto, who is now rather unfortunately the weakest link in the Lilywhites’ starting XI.

Along with a new striker, finding a more adequate replacement for the Cameroon international will undoubtedly be one of Andre Villas-Boas and Daniel Levy’s priorities over the summer.

With that in mind, we look at the FIVE candidates to take over from Assou-Ekotto at White Hart Lane next season.
