The 2013 African Cup of Nations kicked off last month, but one man who won’t be there is Everton’s Steven Pienaar. The former South Africa captain retired from international football in October last year, meaning he’s missing the chance to represent his country, as they host Africa’s biggest football tournament, in favour of pushing Everton up the Premier League table. After drawing 0-0 in their opening fixture against Cape Verde, South Africa are in action again today as they face Angola in a Group B encounter. For that match they’ll be wearing the South Africa home shirt, which is the result of an inspiring and highly creative collaboration with a selection of artists from the Creative African Network (CAN) www.CreativeAfricanNetwork.comDesigners Hasan and Husain Essop say that: “Our design for the football kit was influenced by South Africa’s diversity of cultures and how we have grown as a Nation. The kit represents the unity within our country and at the same time reflects our strong African identity”
