Continuing Real Madrid’s theme of careless disdain for world class Dutch talent, the men from the Bernabeu dropped an absolute clanger in the sale of Wesley Sneijder three-and-a-half years ago.
After a talismanic first season in Spain, in which Sneijder was the focal point in their 2008 La Liga triumph, injury struck during his second season, restricting him to a more peripheral role for Los Blancos.
An inability to look back further than six months and a renewed Galacticos agenda rendered Sneijder surplus to requirements, with the Dutchman joining Inter Milan for a staggeringly low €15million. He consequently went on to win the treble with the Italian club.
