Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool side have been a gift to the Premier League so far this season. Playing with the freedom of a team without fear and defending like a side who haven't been told you aren't meant to concede goals, it has been immensely fun.

All the hysteria has been focused at the attacking flair of Sadio Mane and Philippe Coutinho, despite their early season surge being based on the entire unit. Quality is littered throughout the squad and many players are performing far beyond expectation in slightly alien roles.

Klopp knows the players that are crucial to his side's setup, but some never seem to receive the acclaim for their industrious work in the side, while others see their talents completely forgotten. Not that these handsomely paid stars are too fussed what people think of their contributions, but it is worth acknowledging the roles of some of Liverpool's most under-appreciated stars.

Adam Lallana

Lallana celebration

It has taken some time, but it looks like Adam Lallana is beginning to get the recognition he has so richly deserved. Despite not always contributing goals and assists like he has done this season, Lallana is one of the best English technicians in a generation.

Playing from the right of Liverpool's midfield trio, Lallana's smart runs and excellent short passes have opened up many chances for Klopp's side. Incredibly gifted with the ball at his feet, Lallana is able to retain possession in the tightest of spaces and is thriving in Klopp's system.

James Milner

Milner celebration

Traditionally remembered as one of the league's most under-rated professionals, Milner has done the job that no one seems to be able to do; play left-back for Liverpool.

Perhaps disenchanted that he has not been playing in the central midfield role he craves so deeply, Milner has not shown any signs of disinterest. Mistakes positionally can be allowed for a player functioning in a totally foreign position, but Milner has secured the left side of the Liverpool defence.

Sensible in his decision making and a good tackler, Milner has, temporarily at least, calmed the waters around the left-back role at Liverpool.

Georginio Wijnaldum

Wijnaldum tackles Kane

Eyebrows were raised, question marks scribbled and jokes made when Liverpool spent many, many millions on Georginio Wijnaldum. Those doubts are looking a little foolish now, with the Dutchman already an integral part of the Liverpool side in a box-to-box role.

Playing slightly deeper than he did at Newcastle, Wijnaldum has already notched two assists. The midfield triumvirate for Liverpool are crucial to the way they play, providing space-creating runs forward when in possession and starting moves with sharp, direct passes. Wijnaldum still has to improve the consistency of his performances, but the early signs are that he will be an exceptional addition for Liverpool.
