Darren Bent shouldn’t be seen as a flop at Aston Villa but rather a player who isn’t suited to the game Paul Lambert wants in place at the club. The £24 million transfer fee from Sunderland may make it difficult to part with a player who is still in his prime and capable of scoring, but the best for the squad should be in the reinvestment through the proceeds a potential sale could bring. Aston Villa are building something positive again, but it’s hard to see Darren Bent being a part of it for the long run.
