During a title run in, most top flight players would be keeping their heads down and minds focused on securing the silverware on offer. Not Lee Sharpe however.
The Celebrity Love Island legend had other things on his mind during the 1992 season climax and after tasting defeat against Nottingham Forest, Sharpe decided to hit Blackpool on a night out – taking Ryan Giggs with him.
Of course, Giggsy was hardly a sheep in the affair, but the duo ended up holding a ‘small’ (or large, depending on who you talk to) gathering at Sharpe’s house. And, as par for the course with these sort of impromptu events, gate-crashes were in tow to spoil proceedings. One of which being Sir Alex Ferguson.
After hearing about the party through the grapevine, an enraged Fergie took it upon himself to drive to Sharpe’s estate to prematurely end the celebrations. As it was a new estate, Sharpe’s house was yet to have a number on the door and the gaffer had the ignominy of knocking on several doors before finding the right one. In Giggs’ own words, he was ‘volcanic’ upon eventually finding them.
