Hugo Viana was a young promising prospect who failed to fulfil his potential at Newcastle. He was signed by Sir Bobby Robson for £8.5 million off the back of being crowned European young footballer of the year. Viana failed to make an impact in his 2 year spell with the Magpies and his figures of 28 games and 4 goals didn’t justify the price tag. He was a player who could have been great for Newcastle but it just wasn’t meant to be. He was loaned back to his first club Sporting Lisbon and then went onto Valencia where he failed to impress in a five year spell. Viana should be in his prime now at 28 – he is currently playing back in his native Portugal with Braga.
