I’ll tell you why they cashed in, “money, money, money”. Those Arsenal board members can’t get enough of the stuff. That and the fact that RvP wanted to leave. City could’ve said the same when they signed their squad, Van Persie isn’t injury prone and Arsenal know that. This is coming from an Arsenal fan.

4m euros a year for a contract duration of 4 years is 16m euros total or the equivalent of 2m a year (roughly what Theo Walcott is on) plus an 8m euro (6.7m pound) transfer fee. It’s really not that much and represents good value. There are two reasons not to buy him, either you’re concerned about harmony in the dressing room from disparity of wages or you simply think he has lost it. If he’s the player that he used to be there’s no question that it represents good value for money.

I was disappointed in this article. If Shneider is still one of the world’s best midfielders then he is a bargain at less than £9 million at the age of 28 even if he spends the first two months of his contract getting fit. The reduced transfer fee would have allowed any buying club to offer him a large signing on fee instead of a disruptively high wage. The fact that no premier league clubs, bundesliga clubs, serie a clubs or la liga clubs came in for him suggests that there are doubts about either his influence in the dressing room or ability to recapture his best form. Only time will tell.

The wages are 4m net which is a lot of money for any team to be paying for an injury prone player aged 28.
